Transfer of Ownership
Anytime there’s a change to a vehicle or vessel’s registered owner or lienholder, that change needs to be updated in DMV’s records within 10 days and the California Certificate of Title needs to be transferred to the new owner.

You need to renew your vehicle registration every 1-5 years in California, depending on the vehicle. Keep your registration up-to-date.

VIN Verification
A verification of vehicle is required for a vehicle that does not meet California emission standards.
Record Lookup
Driver records will only include all reportable information: convictions for three, seven, or ten years, departmental actions, and accidents on a person’s driver record as required by California Vehicle Code (CVC) §1808.
Out of State Transfers
Unless the vehicle was originally manufactured to meet California emission standards or the owner or vehicle qualifies for an exemption, California law prohibits California residents or businesses from bringing into California or registering in California, a motor vehicle which is less than 2 years old and has less than 7,500 miles on the odometer at the time of purchase, trade, or acquisition. Refer to the Statement of Facts California Non-Certified Vehicle (REG 256F) form for exemptions.
One Day Permit
A Temporary Operating Permit (TOP) may be issued in certain circumstances when all registration fees have been paid, but license plates and/or registration stickers haven’t been issued.
Motorcycle Sticker / Registration
If you’ve recently bought or been given a motorcycle, moped, scooter, or other motor-driven cycle, you will need to register it with DMV.
Duplicate Sticker / Plates / Reg
We can request a replacement sticker or registration card if the original item has been lost, stolen, destroyed, or mutilated. The item(s) ordered will be mailed to the vehicle’s registered owner’s address on record.
